Defective out of the box.
Right out of the box, the image wasn't even remotely square. As you can clearly see in the pictures, the upper lefthand side of the frame is totally distorted. It was so bad that I originally thought that it had to be intentional as part of their 'VAVA' boot screen graphic, but quickly realized that wasn't the case as all of the text is off-level as well. I tried projecting it onto a wall, onto a screen, inverted, updating firmware, factory resetting it, adjusting the leveling pads, turning the projector left to right (as the instructions suggest), adjusting keystone and corner settings in 'menu>settings>display'... You name it, I tried it. I've had plenty of projectors in the past and have never had an issue such as this. The only reason I tried so hard to get the image to display correctly is because I have been waiting to upgrade to a new 4K laser projector for a while now, and I REALLY wanted to love this projector.I'm extremely disappointed, and it will be going back in favor of the Optoma 4k short-throw projector. Sorry Vava, you had your chance but your lack of quality control, cheap user interface, and lack luster performance was a no-go for me.(In case anyone is wondering, the wall in the photos is flat and the same results were had when attempting to project the image onto an actual Da-lite screen).
VAVA and Amazon drive me upset
VAVA laser TV projector is very good, It is very bright, and the colour is beautiful. The image is minute. It makes me feel like Watching a big regular TV. I love it.There still something I don't like. The remote control is very very difficult to connect to TV. I followed the introduction, pressed back key and menu key at same time hundred times, there was nothing happened. I even thought the remote control was default. I required a replacement. The second one was the same situation, then I realized that it was not problem with remote control. I keeped pressing the back key and menu key repeatedly for a long time, then they were connected to each other. After this step, every thing was fine. I think it is some problem with blue tooth function.
Beautiful, Giant Picture, With mediocre on-board software
I love this projector. I bought it to project on a wall in my basement that I painted white with screen paint. I was able to get about 148 inches of screen size on my wall. - The picture is great. I'm using a ROKU and a PS4 the most on this projector and it does a nice job displaying live TV, Netflix, and video games. - The onboard speakers are surprisingly good. I finally got my speaker system a few weeks after I got the projector. Obviously the speaker system is better, but this projector sounded better than most regular TVs with their onboard speakers. - The tuning menu is ok, but I couldn't imagine using this projector without a device like a ROKU or Apple TV. I played around a little bit with the onboard app installer, but it's not a very good Smart TV interface at all. Not a big deal to me, but it's worth noting so you know what to expect. - Setup was easy. It came well packed in the box. It's kind of heavy, so that must not have been easy. I plugged it in and had it working very quickly.
Awesome projector above average built-in sound.
I actually got this product a week before the price drop so really bad timing but I can't blame them on that. Still think the purchase is well worth the higher price that I got it at. The sound is awesome the image was just from a stream that was in 720p but just wanted to show what it looks like. I'll probably upload a 4k movie once I get one haha.PlexTV, youtube and a few other apps are there but no Netflix :(My only gripe is that it doesn't have Netflix but at least it has multiple HDMI input that I was able to add my Roku player to.Definitely worth the money still but would like to see more apps.
Excellent Projector - wait for sale!!
We purchased this projector in November 2019 (we waited a month to get the black friday/cyber monday discount of $300). We had already purchased a 120" screen and it took some time to find a table that was deep enough to sit in front of screen (we found a coffee table from ikea), but we have been thrilled with the end result. We questioned whether to buy a less expensive, mountable projector but we had to leave our last theater set up when we sold our last home. Ultimately we justified the extra cost given the savings on electrical and repair work associated with install on a wall or ceiling.Since stay at home orders began, we have used our theater for family movie nights and watched tv and films in all lighting conditions. This projector is versatile, the sounds quality is excellent for being self-contained, and the integration with smart tv functions is great. The photo is not a reflection of image quality - it is just the only picture I could find on my phone. The initial set up does take some work to get the image lined up on screen, and initially the picture/projector seemed to re-set the corners of display when the unit would be restarted but for the past few months the setup has saved between uses. Now if we could just get the kids to remember to shut the system down each time they used it. It luckily goes into sleep mode so the bulb won't burn out, but the fan runs so something will keep running if you don't shut it all the way down.
Amazing Home Theater Experience
I have this setup in a spare, 12'x14' bedroom with good light control (shutters on one window) using a standard 120" screen. I purchased the unit for backyard movie nights, hence the odd screen, but found the experience so amazing that I setup a temporary home theater in this room. Despite having a beautiful 70" plasma TV in the family room, with recliners and a super comfortable couch, the family prefers to come into this small room for the more immersive experience. The picture quality is amazing and even at a 120" and at only 13' between the viewer and the screen, the resolution is impressive. The color, brightness, and sound quality are everything you'd expect from a real theater. So what do I love? First and foremost is the ultra short throw. I would never have been able to set this up in this room without it. The device is inches from the screen and incredibly unobtrusive. The built in audio is an extra plus. As you can see from my photo, all I have is a simple power cord to contend with. By the way, that's a simple breakfast tray table I have the device resting on. It happened to be the perfect size and height and makes it easy to pick the entire thing up and take it to the backyard for those outdoor movies. What could be better? The built in Android Aptoide TV is a total joke and barely works. It's really a shame because the rest of the UI for the device is wonderfully designed and very responsive. The projector is extremely easy to set up and make adjustments to. Is this a deal breaker? Absolutely not. I just slapped an Apple TV 4K on the unit (attached with velcro to the bottom of the tray) and I have every streaming option imaginable in super high quality. So what's my overall judgement? I'd be this again in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, I'm looking for a nice, retracting ALR screen to ceiling mount in the family room so that I can get everybody back out of this room.
Just set up but very impressed so far
I just set it up last night. Mounting the screen on the wall took longer than setting the projector up. Very easy. The image is very impressive. The sound is very good also. I only set it up quickly to check it out so I don’t even have a good quality hdmi cable. You can see the pictures I took how close the projector is to the screen. I took one up close to see the quality of the image. The screen I have is 125”. The image does not take up the whole screen. I am going to have to set up the projector lower to take up the whole screen. It currently sits right at the bottom of the screen. The controller is fine you just need to press a little firmly on the buttons. Our family loves it so far!
